Check Out 2 Clips ‘Mr. Sunshine’

There are certainly a lot of new shows hitting both network and basic cable TV this Summer and Fall. Some that we’re pretty excited for, and some we can’t wait to miss (looking at you, The Cape). One of the shows that looks to have some promise is ABC’s upcoming half-hour comedy Mr. Sunshine.

The show stars Matthew Perry as Ben Donovan, a sports arena manager who goes through a mid-life crisis right after his 40th birthday, all while dealing with the oddball employees and demands that his job presents.

Helping out Perry is a pretty solid cast of TV regulars like West Wing favorite Allison Janney, Las Vegas’s Nate Torrence and James Lesure, Better Off Ted’s Andrea Anders, and even Portia Doubleday for good measure.

While the cast alone should be enough to get us excited, we’re more psyched by the fact that the show is being written by TV veteran Thomas Schlamme and Perry himself. Fans of Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip know that this team is quite impressive when at their peak, so we can’t wait to see more.

Check out two new clips and a sneak preview of the show after the jump, and stay with ABC this October, as Mr. Sunshine makes it’s debut

National Doodle Day: Celebrity Doodles on eBay for Charity

As part of NF Awareness month, original doodles are available on eBay. Bidding ends May 23rd.

We have an awesome combination of celebrity Doodlers and superb artists, illustrators, cartoonists and caricaturists for a total of 164 doodles.

These doodles have a very important aim: the funds they raise will benefit NF, Inc., an organization dedicated to providing support to individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis (NF).

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that affects one in every 2,500 births. NF is more common than Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy and Huntington’s Disease combined. Funds raised from the Doodle Day auction will go to support education, advocacy, coalitions, and research for treatments and a cure.

Pilot Patrol: Matthew Perry Shines in ‘Mr. Sunshine’ for ABC

It’s almost time for the upfronts — the halcyon period of enthusiasm and anticipation when networks present their primetime schedules for fall and announce new series pick-ups to advertisers — which means that as we speak, dozens of executives at all the major networks are currently hunkered down in screening rooms, viewing a slew of pilots to try and decide which televisual treats should grace our screens come fall.

Nothing is a done deal until the third week of May, when the upfronts roll out in New York, but Variety is currently reporting positive buzz for a number of pilots coming out of the screening rooms, one of which is the Matthew Perry comedy, ‘Mr. Sunshine.’

Written by Perry, ‘Sunshine’ centers on a man who has a minor identity crisis on his 40th birthday. The single camera comedy scored high in screenings and, according to Variety, is “pretty much a done deal.” Early word seems to indicate that ABC might schedule the comedy for Tuesdays at 9PM to fill the void left by ‘Lost’ after it ends this season.

Matthew Perry gets a boss

Allison Janney might have played the president’s press secretary on “The West Wing,” but this time around, she’s calling the shots.

Janney has joined the Matthew Perry-starring ABC pilot “Mr. Sunshine,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In “Sunshine,” a manager (Perry) of a San Diego stadium turns 40 and realizes he can’t coast on his devil-may-care attitude. Crystal (Janney) is his boss that runs the arena.

Janney’s also been attached to “Shameless,” Showtime’s drama pilot starring William H. Macy as an alcoholic dad who relies on his daughter (Emmy Rossum) when his wife abandons the family. Janney has a recurring role as his love interest.

Mathew tweeted this yesterday: (if you aren’t following him yet, make sure you do! Click Here)

Abc officially greenlit my pilot today. Yay! It’s called Mr Sunshine. In other news, I thought the conan statement was fantastic.

Congrats Matthew!!! <3 Read the official newsmessage:

Mr Sunshine, starring Friends’ Matthew Perry has been given the green light by ABC The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

The comedy, based on an idea by Perry, follows the manager of an aging San Diego stadium who has a minor mid-life crisis on his 40th birthday.

The show is a single-camera project à la 30 Rock, The Office and Perry’s own Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and was co-written with Alex Barnow and Marc Firek.

News of Mr Sunshine’s addition came on the same day as Perry’s former co-star Courtney Cox’s Cougar Town was also renewed by ABC.

Perry making “Dirty Pictures”

Matthew Perry has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated and slightly-feared (by the industry) film adaptation of Peter Biskind’s best-selling novel “Down and Dirty Pictures”.

Like Robert Altman’s “The Player”, the flick both takes the piss and exposes the open wounds of the independent film industry. In particular, it exposes the machinations of Miramax, as operated by Bob and Harvey Weinstein.

The film will be shot with actors, but will include segments in comic-book inspired animation, and claymation.

Perry (“17 Again”) joins a cast of recognizable faces in the film – a lot, like him, from the world of TV – including Vincent D’Onofrio (as Harvey Weinstein, no less!), Andy Serkis (“Lord of the Rings”), Sally Hawkins, Hugh Dancy (“Confessions of a Shopaholic”), Bobby Canavale, and Elias Koteas (yep kids! Casey Jones from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : The Movie”!). Indy alumni like Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez are also rumoured to be making appearances in the flick.

Ken Bowser‘s film tells of Bingham Ray and Jeff Lipsky, a couple of novice filmmakers who plan – via their new company October Films – to take on Miramax Films. Ray and Lipsky hope to nourish art-house cinema and compete against Harvey and his brother Bob, creating a grueling, emotional battle over the future of independent film.

Shooting begins next month in Park City.
