As more party goers filtered in, DJ AM threw down and turned up the heat in the room with his fast paced, crowd pleasing turntable style. The guests, who were extremely mixed from 20 something hipsters to Frank Sinatra look alikes, sang along and danced on top of the towering banquettes. Milling about the crowd was a sport coat clad Matthew Perry doing laps of the room, relatively new Mom and Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio looking stunning in a strapless black top, and a cocktail sipping ex-Miss California USA pageant co-director Shanna Moakler was hanging by the front banquette grooving to DJ AM’s tunes. This place is definitely special and not your typical L.A. drinking spot, as the energy of the room transports me back to my bar days in Manhattan-land of good vibes and a cool mix of people.

People sometimes ask me how I’ve managed to get to the age of 39 and never been married. The answer is, I don’t know.

It’s not like I’m a die-hard single guy, sitting around in my bachelor pad saying, ‘Yes, I’m still out there!’ It just seems to be one of those random things, and if anything I think it’s kind of pathetic that I haven’t been able to find Ms Right yet.

I don’t know if my being famous has anything to do with still being single, although dating another actor does get complicated at times. I went through a time, a few years ago, when I said to myself that I would never again date anyone who even knew what a sound stage was.

I had a fantasy of phoning my girlfriend and saying, ‘Honey, I’m at the sound stage,’ and she’d say, ‘I don’t know what that is…’ at which point I’d say, ‘I love you! Let’s get married!’ But, of course, it’s not as simple as that, is it?

They say that women like a man who can make them laugh, and I find that if you can make a woman laugh on the first and second dates, then you’re doing well.

When I was younger I used humour as a tool to avoid getting too serious with people – if there was deep emotional stuff going on, then I would crack a joke to defuse the situation.

But that’s not good when you’re dating someone – you have to learn to listen to your girlfriend as well as amuse her. It took me a while to figure that one out.

I would love to have kids one day. In fact, I’m pretty good with them. I grew up with five half-siblings, the youngest of whom is 11 years younger than me, so I think I learned some pretty cool parenting skills quite early on in life.

I grew up babysitting and always enjoyed it. I love family. A couple of my closest friends have kids and I’m their godfather, and that’s one of my greatest pleasures in life, just picking them up from school and hanging out with them. So maybe someday.

Life has changed so much over the last few decades. There used to be a feeling that once you were 30, you had to be married with children and a house… and here I am, nearly 40, with none of that.

But I’m hoping that will change. I’m a pretty happy guy, who is looking for someone who enjoys having a good time. I’m hoping it will all work out for me in the end.

As part of NF Awareness month, celebrity doodles will be available for auction on eBay from May 7th – 17th.

These doodles have a very important aim: the funds they raise will benefit NF, Inc., an organization dedicated to providing support to individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis (NF).

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that affects one in every 2,500 births. NF is more common than Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy and Huntington’s Disease combined. Funds raised from the Doodle Day auction will go to support education, advocacy, coalitions, and research for treatments and a cure.
